Centro de Diversidad- Programa IE Mentor
|

El pasado 4 de octubre, el Instituto de
Empresa reunió en Madrid a 60 mentores
y mentees, en una de las primeras
actividades del Programa ie Mentor. Este
acto estuvo enmarcado dentro del programa
liderA de la comunidad de Madrid
y ha contado con la colaboración del
Washington Quality Group.
presidenta de la Fundación Sanitas;
Carmen García de Andrés, socia responsable
del Grupo Women en PricewaterhouseCoopers
España; o Dominga
Jorgegrac Santísima Trinidad, Technical
Sales Director, SPGIT. IBM.
Entre los mentores de la Comunidad del
IE, destacar a Juan Miguel Antoñanzas,
senior advisor, H. Neumann/Alstom
y presidente honorario del Consejo Rector
Internacional del IE, y al propio decano
del Instituto de Empresa, Santiago
Iñiguez de Onzoño. Además de destacados
antiguos alumnos como Mariona
Roger, secretaria general de ONO, y
profesores del IE, entre otros, Carmen
Abril Barrie, vicepresidenta de Marketing
de España y Grecia de Pepsico.
Women Entrepreneurs In Saudi Arabia: An International Perspective

On 6-8 November, in Jeddah, Saudi
Arabia, Instituto de Empresa joined Effat
College in Jeddah, in an innovative international
programme to foster and promote
the entrepreneurship skills of Saudi
Arabian Business Women. Forty-seven
women entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs
successfully completed the
three-day programme aimed at equipping
them with the skills and knowledge needed
to succeed in their local environment.
The sponsorship of the National
Commercial Bank in Saudi Arabia enabled
the participation of 15 female students
from Effat College, Dar Al Hekma, and the
College of Business Administration.
Representatives from King Abdul Aziz
University also attended. Women from the
corporate world represented international
companies such as DHL, Xenel Group HR & Training Center, Jeddah United Sports,
Abdul Latif Jameel Vocational Training
Center, La Woman and Optics Company.
Moreover, a group of well-known women
entrepreneurs shared their experiences
on how they initiated their careers as
Saudi Women Entrepreneurs.
Dr. Haifa Reda Jamal Al Lail, Dean of
Effat College, and Dr. Celia de Anca, Director
of IE’s Center for Diversity in Global
Management, opened the session, giving
an overview of the main themes of the programme.
They also provided information
regarding the collaboration between the
two institutions in the framework of this first
event, as well as in a series of future events
that will take place in Jeddah and in Madrid.
After the opening of the seminar, three key
areas were developed during the three
days of sessions:
Entrepreneurship Skills: Professors
Ignacio de la Vega and Paz Ambrosy
provided an overview of the mindsets,
methods and managerial activities that
support the entrepreneurial process. The
main theoretical tools were discussed in
the local context of Jeddah so that participants
could better understand how to
adapt theoretical models into real business
practices.
Women in Business Intl Best Practices: Professor Celia de Anca gave an overview
of women leaders worldwide.
Today’s international organizations are
increasingly open to the idea that women
can act as a catalyst for the organization’s capacity to innovate. Participants analyzed
the local opportunities from women
leaders and explored the options available
for women, identifying areas for training
and personal development as necessary
tools to obtain the maximum benefits out
of the existing opportunities.
Women in Business: The Local Environment:
The third part of the programme
was dedicated to the local environment for
women in business in Saudi Arabia.
Prestigious guest speakers focused on the
current environment in the Kingdom for
business women, highlighting the opportunities
available and the challenges ahead.
The experts also expounded models of
successful women from the region and
some of the key factors of their success.
These globally recognized personalities
included:
• Dr. Walid Fitaihi, Chairman of the Board
of Directors and Chief Executive of the
International Medical Center (IMC).
• Mr. Amr Khasshoggi, Chairman and
CEO of Amkest Group, and executive
manager of Global Gypsum Company
Ltd (3g), and member of the Advisory
Board of Effat College.

Effat College.
Upon finishing, participants were invited
to connect to IE’s Diversity Community,
http://communities.ie.edu., where they
along with professors and other members
of the IE community can further explore
some of the issues they had tackled. “We were extremely impressed by the
quality of the participants: their knowledge,
enthusiasm, entrepreneurial talents and
skills. Their interaction in IE’s online platform
will greatly benefit the IE community
as a whole”. - Celia de Anca "It was a privilege for Effat College to work
with the talented team from Instituto de
Empresa to be able to offer this programme
to the community of businesswomen in
Saudi Arabia. We look forward to expanding
this relationship in the future and to
many more innovative initiatives that highlight
the key role women play in the economic
development of Saudi Arabia."

Women Leaders Intercultural Forum
(WLIF) Discusses Integrated Security

The launch of the Women Leaders Intercultural Forum (WLIF) at
Columbia University (New York) took place 24-26 September. The
event was chaired by key players such as: Mary Robinson, Chair,
Council of Women World Leaders, Lisa Anderson, Dean, School
of International and Public Affairs, and The Right Honorable Kim
Campbell, P.C., Q.C. Secretary General, Club of Madrid.
The Women Leaders Intercultural Forum comprises women leaders
from across the world. It seeks to achieve a paradigm shift in
policy discussions on global and national security by building an
integrated approach that treats human security and state security
as interactive and mutually reinforcing components.
Through its intercultural, intergenerational and intersectoral
approach, WLIF incorporates a diversity of perspectives into
the new security paradigm. By strategically deploying its women
leaders to key regional and global policy forums, WLIF will bring
awareness and concrete policy prescriptions for an integrated
security agenda, and security messages to situations and crises
where there is a clear need for WLIF’s global leadership.
The 50 women participating in the different events of the launch
represented a variety of sectors. They included:
• Women in politics, such as - Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi,
Minister of Economy, The United Arab Emirates, and Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, former Minister of Finance and former Minister
of Foreign Affairs, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
• Women from academia, such as - Sylvia Ann Hewlett, Director
of the Gender and Public Policy Programme, School of
International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, Almaz Negash, Director of the Global Leadership and Ethics
Programme, Markkula Center for Applied Ethics Santa Clara
University, and Celia de Anca, Director of the Center for
Diversity in Global Management, IE.
• Women from the world of business and international institutions,
such as - Katherine Marshall, Director and Counselor to
the President, Development Dialogue on Values and Ethics,
World Bank, Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, President of
the 61st Session of the UN General Assembly, Kingdom of
Bahrain, Anu Jayanti, Managing Director of Citigroup Foreign
Exchange, and Rachel Miles Lee, Vice President of Human
Resources, American Express.
WLIF intends to articulate security priorities for people at risk with
technically-sound policy recommendations backed by solid research
and analysis. While the broad range of sectoral expertise
present within WLIF’s membership enables the design of crosscutting
solutions, WLIF’s long term and inter-generational perspective
will also enable the anticipation of future leadership
needs and the cultivation of future generations of leaders.
