IE Business School hosts the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference 2007

Last 6-9 June, IE Business School hosted the Annual Bab - son College Entre pre neur ship Research Conference (BCERC), attended by top researchers on the topic from around the world. Founded in 1981 by Babson, BCERC is considered by many to be the premier conference of its kind in the world. The publication Fron tiers of Entre pre neurship Re - search contains the conference proceedings and is the most comprehensive collection of empirical research papers on entrepreneurship.

The 2007 Call for Papers re - ceived 705 abstracts from 45 countries and of these the conference was delighted to welcome 350 researchers, presenting 217 papers, from 28 countries. Coun - tries represented included: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bra - zil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Ger many, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Singapore, Re public of Korea, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United King - dom, The Nether lands and the United States.

Julio de Castro, Associate Dean of research and Pro fessor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy at IE commented: “IE Busi ness School is immensely proud to host BCERC 2007. The conference is conferred only to those schools recognized as significant worldwide contributors to entrepreneurship research. For the school, this is validation of the fact that entrepreneurship is at the heart of our mission and teaching.”

“We are pleased to partner with IE Business School which has one of the leading MBA programmes in all of Europe, and is a leader in entrepreneurship education and research,” said Andrew Zacharakis, John H. Muller Jr. Chair for Entre pre - neur ship at Bab son. “On a personal note, I had the opportunity to spend my sabbatical at IE in the fall of 2005. We were treated to Spanish hospitality – café con leche and tapas in addition to lead ing edge entrepreneurship research.”

In addition to the conference, IE held the 2007 BCERC Doctoral Consortium Pro gramme, which provided doctoral students with the opportunity to gain insight into current research issues through intense interaction with consortium faculty. The ’07 Doc - toral Consortium re ceived 69 applications from 21 countries for 25 accepted applications.

Hosted in conjunction with BCERC since the year 1985, the Con sor tium also seeks to encour age scholars and educators to be come leaders in the field of entre preneurship education. This year’s Consortium was sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foun dation: www.kauffman.org.
